Do You Want to Play with Us?

The Civic Orchestra of Tucson (COT) is a 75-member, all-volunteer community orchestra founded in 1975. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings from the beginning of September through early May. The first rehearsal is on August 30. The rehearsal venue is near Swan and River Rds.

We are currently seeking musicians in many sections, including 1st violins, violas, cello, and 3rd horn. For concerts later in the season, we also need a trumpet and tuba player. We sometimes need substitute musicians (unpaid) to fill in for rehearsals or a concert.

The audition process:

Please fill out the form below to let us know your instrument and experience.

Music Director Keun Oh asks that you create a 10-minute video featuring you playing at least three contrasting pieces of your choice. These may include either solo pieces or standard orchestral excerpts for your instrument. The Personnel Manager will tell you how to submit the video after you complete the form below.

The deadline for auditioning is August 23 to be considered for joining the orchestra for its first concerts in October.

If you are accepted as a member, you will be asked to provide proof of vaccination.

You will need to bring your own music stand to rehearsals and some concerts.

Mask and vaccination policy for our musicians:

If you are not vaccinated, please stay home. If you come, mask when you arrive and when you leave. Please wear a proper mask—no cloth, no ventilated masks. Instead, use a procedure, N95, or KN95 mask. If you forget your mask, COT will provide one. Be as considerate of the people around you as you can. Strings, please stay properly masked during rehearsals; wind players, stay masked as much as possible. Distance yourself from other musicians, with a minimum of three feet (if you can touch the person next to you, you are too close), one person per stand.

if you are interested in joining the COT, please fill out and submit the form below. We will acknowledge your inquiry within 72 hours. We look forward to hearing from you!
